The Spirit

Emotional & Spiritual Wellness

This branch supports counseling, trauma healing work, and initiatives for spiritual growth.

Shalom Support has directly funded counseling for individuals in need of emotional support through difficult times, and indirectly supported other trauma healing and educational initiatives that would fall under the “Spirit” branch by partnering with like-minded non-profits.

Counseling

When people are struggling through the pain and hardships of life but can’t afford the cost of professional help, Shalom Support has stepped in to provide financial aid.  Life Resources and Hesed Place are two compassionate organizations we have partnered with to help aid individuals in need of emotional healing.

A few months after escaping an abusive marriage, while Mary (name changed) was struggling manage work and life as a single-mom of three kids, Mary’s mom, her main support, died suddenly.  Caught in immense grief, and overwhelmed with the many burdens she was carrying, Mary finally agreed to go to counseling.  She could not afford the fees, so Shalom Support covered her costs.  It wasn’t long before Mary started to smile again and found herself leaving her appointments with more peace.  She told us, “I really didn’t want to go – but I was surprised – I actually like it!”  Mary has accepted a new job that allows her flexibility to be present with her children and is managing her work/life balance better . . . now facing each day with hope instead of despair.

Trauma Healing Work

There are many different tools/techniques to help people heal from their trauma.  Shalom Support has loved supporting No Boundaries International in their trauma-healing work in Uganda.  The following pictures are from their work at the Nakivale Refugee Settlement and with the only survivors of the Mpondwe school massacre.

Initiatives for Spiritual Growth

One way Shalom Support has provided opportunities for others to nurture their spirit is by funding seminars that equip people with tools for personal growth. One such conference is a course by John Paul Jackson, “The Art of Hearing God.”  Though partnering with Jeannine Rodriguez-Everard and her non-profit Images of Light, we have offered this course live at no cost to leaders and volunteers who were hungry for more training and spiritual growth
